Temporary Income Benefits in Houston
Answers from Our Houston Workers' Compensation Lawyer
At Recalde Law Firm, PLLC, Temporary Income Benefits is one of the areas with which we can help you.
Temporary Income Benefits (TIBs for short) make up for lost wages while you are unable to work due to your on-the-job injury or illness. They are calculated as 70% of your average weekly wage (an average of your earnings for 13 weeks prior to your injury). Determining your income benefits amount can be a hassle, but we have the experience — more than a decade — to handle your case with care.
More information about TIBs:
- You become eligible after missing seven (not necessarily consecutive) days of work because of your injury or illness.
- They are paid to you weekly by the insurance carrier.
- Temporary Income Benefits discontinue after you reach Maximum Medical Improvement, or MMI, either medically or statutorily.

Even if you go back to work light duty, you can still be eligible for partial Temporary Income Benefits. If you are not earning as much as you did before your injury, either because you are working less hours or have a position that pays less per hour, you can get partial TIBs. These are calculated as 70% of the difference between your pre- and post-injury earnings. Though this process can be complicated, our Houston workers' compensation lawyers work hard to keep you informed throughout the entire process.
